

Dr Velimir Kovacevic is a highly experienced consultant psychiatrist with specialised forensic training.
Dr Kovacevic has been undertaking medicolegal work in the field of psychiatry in Australia for over 20 years. He has a good understanding of both clinical psychiatry and the legal system, allowing him to provide robust expert opinions and evaluations for various legal matters. His experience spans the industry, having undertaken matters for Government entities such as the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, Comcare, Services Australia and Census Australia as well as for many superannuation funds and insurers. His experiences spans all insurance type cases such as CTP and TPD as well as workers’ compensation matters. He also undertakes fitness for duty assessments. His expertise enables him to offer objective, evidence-based reports and testimony when required in legal proceedings
He has worked in acute inpatient, secure and forensic rehabilitation units in Queensland and New Zealand. He has acted as a Forensic Court Expert providing reports and expert testimony in the Mental Health Court, Supreme and District Courts, Drug Court, for Legal Aid Queensland, for the Parole Board in Queensland, the Mental Health Review Tribunal, and the Department of Justice and Attorney General, addressing issues of criminal responsibility, fitness to stand trial, Court diversion, sentencing, risk assessments, and other issues. He has also undertaken a number of accreditations and certificates to formalise his expertise.
